My name Is Isabel Zaman and I am an artist, painter, and founder of IZ Art. My gallery is an online platform where fellow art enthusiasts can freely explore original works and collect my original masterpieces. My Journey as an Artist

Discovering Art at an Early Age

I was born as the sixth child of seven siblings to a family from Etzatlan, a rural mining village in Jalisco, Mexico. It was here where I had discovered a special interest in painting. Being surrounded by the colors and hues that defined local Etzatlan culture as well as the truly diverse people around me moved me to express my observations and experiences through charcoal on wood and paper.

Hindered by Gender Stereotypes

I recall a time I once stole chalk from my brother to create an artwork of my own. When my mother discovered what I had done, she snapped at me and restricted me from ever creating art again. You see, back then, little girls like me were taught to know our place simply as child-bearers and homemakers. Since this moment, I followed my mother and did not resume painting until much later.

Finally, Freedom to Explore My Craft

I grew up as a proud Mexican woman who embraced my culture and the wisdom of my mother, but knew deep inside I still had my unyielding passion for art. I also have three, grown, beautiful boys and a wonderful husband who became the first person to have pushed me to try my hand at painting once again. Today, I create unique art pieces using oil and acrylic paint on canvas, and occasionally, charcoal.

Learning From the Best

I pursued my love for art by enrolling in art and painting courses at the University of California San Diego Extension. I have also had the privilege of learning through private classes held by several renowned painters in San Diego, California.
